When Gourmet magazine produced a special Web feature compiling its favorite cookie recipes from the year 1941 through 2008, I felt a thrill of excitement. History + baking = a pretty compelling reason to go out and buy a 4-pound package of butter from Sam's Club.
Andrea of Andrea's Recipes and a few other food bloggers were taken/afflicted with the same sense of excitement and enthusiasm necessary to participate in an event that calls for baking 12 varieties of Christmas cookie in 12 days (and blogging about it), and before long, the 12 Days of Cookies Gourmet Cookie Extravaganza was born.
My first post will appear later today, followed by a different cookie a day for the first 12 days of December. Grab a cup of coffee or cocoa ~ or a tall glass of milk ~ and stop by later for today's post: first up, Brown Butter Cookies.
I should mention that we decided to keep things fun and interesting by each choosing 12 cookies without telling the others what our choices would be. So it should be very interesting to see how tastes match up, and also how they differ. Don't forget to check out the other Extravagant Cookie Bakers:
